The undisputed king of freshwater fishkeeping. Demands warm soft acidic water with near daily water changes. Expensive and demanding but no freshwater fish comes close to the beauty.

Discus hamburger, beef heart, frozen bloodworm. Feed 3 to 4 times daily in small amounts. Quality food is essential.

Lay eggs on vertical surfaces. Both parents feed fry with nutritious skin secretions for the first weeks of life.
